The “SupaBoy” Handheld That Plays SNES Games

In case you haven’t noticed, we aren’t a site that is focused on gaming news, but this is a little hard to pass up. A company called Hyperkin has launched a new handheld console entitled the “SupaBoy.” Ridiculous name and possible illegalities aside, the console is basically a Super Nintendo that is hand held and plays regular SNES cartridges. Crazy right? It certainly looks it.

The other functionality of the handheld is that it also works as a regular SNES that you can hook up to your TV and plug 2 wired SNES controllers into. At first I was like, “ok this is silly, a handheld SNES” but add the fact that it can also hook up to your TV and replace the big boxy SNES you may have sitting in front of your TV? I’m sold. I’m going to see if I can try and track one down some time and give it a go and see how it works. It piqued my curiosity in a way I never thought something with “Supa” in the name could. Here’s some of the specs for it from the press release:

• Original SNES controller design
• Screen size (diagonal): 3.5 inches
• 2.5 Hours battery life
• Measures: 8.5 x 4 x 1.5 inches
• Weight: 11.5 ounces
• Includes 2 Ports for wired controllers
• Stereo sound
• AV Out
• Headphone jack
• Adjustable volume control
