This whole Twitch app on Canadian Xbox Live is getting a little weird. I’ve had it on my console for a while now and it works beautifully, but after I made the initial post about it, there were some not-so-nice comments from people who said it was not available for them.
Afterwards, I made a video showing that it was, but still, it was not to be found on the dashboard for others. As I mentioned in my video, I first noticed it when I had loaded up one of my silver accounts to record something and downloaded it as I thought it was released. It told me I needed a gold account to use, so I went back to my regular Canadian gold account and the app was there. I downloaded it and all it worked great.
BUT….thanks to the anonymous commenter in the previous story, I think the mystery has been solved on how to get the app on your Canadian account. From their instructions on getting it to work, go to Xbox.com and register a US silver account with a different email address. Once the account is created, go to the apps section on your Xbox console after signing in with the newly created account and download the Twitch app. You won’t be able to use it there, but that’s ok. Then go back to your regular Canadian account and return to the app section and it should be there to download.
This is basically the same steps that I took when I downloaded the app originally, but I didn’t realize that my silver account was indeed an American account. Even though the location on it says Canada, the apps–which I didn’t even notice till I went and checked this morning– are all US apps like Hulu and Redbox Instant.
So there you go. Give it a try and please leave a comment letting us know if it worked for you. Also, much thanks to the anonymous commenter for figuring out what the issue was.
