Resident Evil Revelations Review

Author: Jeff McAllister

In recent years, the Resident Evil games have been slowly descending into a festering pit of mediocrity. The once true survival-horror series has practically changed genres over the years, becoming full on action titles and doing away with any tension and suspense the series was known for. It’s not a change that anyone wanted to see and fans were hoping to someday see the series return to its hair-raising, spine-tingling, spook-fests that the original games had been so many years ago.

Resident Evil Revelations was released to high-acclaim last year on the handheld Nintendo 3DS, although the system’s layout prevented decent controls without the add-on circle pad; the game was an actual survival-horror game that brought the series, at least partially, back to its roots. Now a year later and nearly 6 months after the craptacular Resident Evil 6, Revelations is finally getting the full screen treatment with upgraded visuals for its release on the Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Review

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Review
No, there isn’t a gun that shoots honey badgers…sadly.

Author: Jeff McAllister

If you could put two parts 80′s actions films, one part neon clothing of the era, and just a dash of hair band music riffs all into a blender, mix it high for ten minutes, and pour it out in videogame form, you would end up with the incredibly absurd, and somehow comforting world of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. To put it plainly, Blood Dragon is basically a mod for one of the best games released last year and while familiar, it’s not quite like anything that has been done before.

Injustice: Gods Among Us – Ed Boon Interview [VIDEO]

edboon

Last week in Toronto, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon was showing off his recently released title Injustice: Gods Among Us. Friend of the site and gaming biz renaissance man, Justin Amirkhani (@Keadin) had a chance to ask some questions covering his view on the resurgence of the fighting genre, characters that he would have liked to have seen in the game that didn’t make the cut, and trying to figure out if there would be a certain someone as a hidden playable character.

Dead Island Riptide Review

Dead Island Riptide Review
A terrifying-ly bad game.

Author: Jeff McAllister

Dead Island was a middling game that was released in the not-so distant 2011 and followed a story of four island resort vacationers who were immune to a spreading disease that seemed to raise the other island inhabitants from the dead and turn them into aggressive and voracious monsters. Although the setting and idea was interesting; the gameplay, characters, quick deaths, and just about everything else about the game was disappointing.

With Dead Island Riptide, the new title from Techland, a company that is known for dropping bigger deuces than an elephant, it is simply more Dead Island with a new playable character. There’s nothing improved gameplay-wise, characters still look like they were carved out of wood, and the new additions to the game; like the hub-based wave battles are pointless and monotonous.

TMNT: Out of the Shadows – Michelangelo Trailer and Screens

tmnt_logo

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were a “cool” thing when I was younger… twice. Kind of weird how that happened, but the original black and white comics were incredible and then years later, the goofy “Cowabunga!” Archie Comic version of the Ninja Turtles and Saturday morning cartoons were pretty damn cool too.

So now many, many, …oh god so many moons later, it seems that the Ninja Turtles are on another comeback with a new cartoon series and a new game entitled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.

Activision has released a new trailer that shows off some of Michelangelo’s in-game moves, as well as a few somewhat frightening screenshots of the nunchucking turtle in his newly realized visage.

Dead Island Riptide: Weapon Duplication Glitch

dir_head

There are times during Dead Island Riptide that having numerous amounts of the same weapon can come in handy. Whether it is because you like to toss them and sometimes they’ll get lost or if it’s because they are worth a lot to sell. There is a little trick you can do in Dead Island Riptide that will allow you duplicate the weapons you currently possess and allow you to carry many copies of them in case you just want to have an extra for backup or if you want to make a whole ton of money rather quickly.

Thunder Wolves Teaser Trailer [XBLA, PSN, PC]

THUNDERWOLVES_LOGO

Coming soon to the PSN, PC, and XBLA from Bitcomposer Games and Most Wanted Entertainment is the helicopter title, Thunder Wolves. It is labelled as a arcade shooter but other than that, there really isn’t all that much else to go on. The trailer, which can be seen below, shows–well, some helicopters flying. Provided it is actual gameplay, it sure does look nice, but we’ll have to see when more gameplay is shown.

I was given a preview copy of the game, but it needs a key to unlock and e-mails to the PR asking for the key haven’t been answered. I’d like to give you more info about the game, as helicopter games like Choplifter and Thunderblade are among my favorites, but I guess we’ll just have to wait for more information.

[UPDATE] Key received and will hopefully have a preview posted soon!

Bioshock Infinite’s Reversible Cover Art is Gorgeous

reverse-bioshock

Did you know that there was an alternate cover for the recently released Bioshock Infinite? If you did, well you’re smarter than me because I sure didn’t. The default cover, which can be seen here, took a lot of flak when it was first revealed for being way too generic, too similar to the Uncharted covers, and not featuring either the Song Bird or Elizabeth, two of the game’s main draws.

So when I saw a twitter post saying that the reversible cover was way better than the original, I just assumed that people were joking that the blank white paper that is usually on the reverse side was better than the image of Booker with a shotgun slung over his shoulder.

Silly me! The reversible art can be seen above if you haven’t checked it out before.

Defiance: Day One Impressions on Xbox 360

Defiance: Day One Impressions
Author: Jeff McAllister

I haven’t played an MMO since the very early days of City of Heroes, and it was a game I really enjoyed. In the years since, having to constantly upgrade my PC to keep it current to play games saw me slowly transition over to consoles where I do most (i.e. all) of my gaming now. So when I saw that there was an MMO coming to the 360, my interest was piqued, even though I had no clue what the game was about other than having the usual post-apocalyptic Earth setting and not having a monthly subscription fee, I decided it was time to jump back into an MMO world.

Thief: Out of the Shadows Announcement Trailer [PC, PS4]

thief header

Garrett the Thief is back with this announcement trailer for Eidos-Montreal’s next title: Thief, which is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4 and “other next-generation consoles.” Although the trailer is purely pre-rendered and doesn’t feature any gameplay whatsoever, it’s still nice to see Garrett back in action and looking even better than ever.
